Combining Sentences: Adverbs - 6th Grade Grammar

Combining with Adverbs

To avoid short, choppy sentences, combine sentences using words, phrases, or clauses.
You can combine sentences by leaving out repeated words and moving an adverb into one of the sentences.
Examples:
        Matthew also takes pictures. He takes them constantly.
                Matthew also takes pictures constantly.

        Matthew uses a digital camera. He uses it exclusively.
                Matthew uses a digital camera exclusively.

        We ran to the store. We ran quickly
                We ran quickly to the store.

Combining with Adverbs Practice

Move an adverb to combine each pair of sentences.

I remembered our meeting. I remembered it suddenly.
I suddenly remembered our meeting.

I turned around. I turned immediately.
I turned around immediately.

I walked to the bus stop. I walked directly.
I walked directly to the bus stop.
