Types of Sentences for Grade 5



What are the types of sentences? 

There are four different types of sentences. Each begins with a capital letter and ends with an end mark.

A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period.
Example: We watched the meteor shower. 

An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark.
Example: How long will it last? 

An imperative sentence tells or asks someone to do something. It ends with a period.
Example: Look in the northern sky. 

An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling. It ends with an exclamation mark.
Example: That was the brightest one yet!

• An exclamation expresses strong feeling. It ends with an exclamation point.
